Ruth Brown and Grace Odell have the distinction of being the very first girl students at the Texas School of Mines. They are not exactly studying to be mining engineers, however, but as the university course of advanced chemistry and geology and mechanical drawing and kindred subjects is offered to anyone who may want it, and as the University of Texas, of which the Mines school is a branch, is a co-educational institution, therefore why should they not take what subjects they want? These two girls are popular with the boys of the school and both have staff positions on the school paper, "The Prospector."
