A guard at Sunland Park racetrack was slugged and disarmed early Monday as burglars entered the track area for the seventh time in a month.
Guard Frank Ramsey, 24, was felled by a judo chop across the shoulder as he entered the $50 pari-mutuel section to go upstairs to check the press box.
Ramsey said two men attacked him, and in the scuffle, one of the burglars took his gun.
Another guard, Bob Brown, 34, came to Ramsey’
S rescue and the intruder with Ramsey’s gun fired three shots.
Brown said he fired four shots. There was little light, the only illumination coming from a telephone booth. One of Brown’s four bullets cold not be fond, so it was possible one of the prowlers was hit.
