E.P. Tenant Given $50 And Costs
R.J. Herren was awarded $50 and costs in Justice of Peace Court Wednesday because he and his wife allegedly were forced to sleep two nights on a bed without a mattress.
Mr. Herren was awarded the damages in a suit for $149 and costs against Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bernard, East Yandell Boulevard, in which he charged he and his wife were forced to undergo hardships while he was looking for a new place to live.
He said Mrs. Bernard raised his rent, and when he told her he could not pay she ordered him to move, although he offered a month’s rent in advance.
After a couple of nights Mrs. Bernard removed the mattress from the couple’s bed, forcing them to sleep on the springs, he testified.
The following night she removed the bedstead, Mr. Herren said.
