Reader Robert E. Forbess emailed me some photos from 1953 including one taken after the 1953 B-36 crash on the Franklins. There is also a photo of a gator at the plaza, Ascarate Lake and Scenic Drive.
Here is what he said:
I was stationed on Biggs at the time. The day after the crash I drove around to the west side of the mountain and took a picture of where it crashed. It was so far away all I could see from the highway was a black spot. In the picture was my 1947-8 ford automobile. My wife and I lived down in the valley at 109 Anita Circle. We had two children while we lived there and El Paso will always be our home.
