A major project of the Downtown Development Assn. Of El Paso, which Friday and Saturday celebrates Downtown Days, is its “Park and Shop” program.
Sixteen parking lots and garages with space for 2000 cars are participating in the “Park and Shop” operation.
More than 100 Downtown stores and business and professional firms are also participants.
Method of operation is that “Park and Shop” members issue a parking validation stamp with each purchase of $2 or more. The stamp or stamps are affixed to the purchaser’s parking stub and the garage or lot where he or she has parked his car gives one-hour of free parking for each stamp on the parking stub.
The great vigor of the program is amply attested by the figures on parking stamps redeemed month by month since “Park and Shop” was instituted last March.
They follow:
March, 8,471; April, 22,861; May, 22,611; June, 20,905; July, 21,676; August, 21,477; September, 24,425; October, 27,453. Total 169,670.
