Two things:
Football: Mike Price must let Blaire Sullivan handle Q'back duties Saturday. No more futzing around in this lost season. It is something, though, when the best you have is a third-stringer. Price has to do something for next year - f0r the season-ticket holders - even though he's not likely to be the head coach in 2013.
Basketball: I'm surprised at the big 20-point win Friday. It all took place in the second half with a 22-3 UTEP run. Good news: It really WAS all about defense. The Miners conked the evangelist's team, Oral Roberts, 69-49. A romp! Coming up? Not a romp. UTEP goes to Arizona Thursday.
The 49 was the good part of this season opener. Coach Tim Floyd is all about defense. And defense will be the tell-tale part of UTEP having a successful season.
Drop down a division in football where the Miners can compete. Focus on excellence in basketball where UTEP has historically been good.

It looks like it could be a really exciting basketball season! I was really impressed by the play of Chris Washburn. It looked like he had been playing division 1 basketball for a long time.
The team as a whole only had 7 turnovers to Oral Roberts 20.
This time last year, the team looked sloppy, now they look sharp.
