This resurgence - four TDs in a a row - came too late to save this UTEP football season. But there was a smile.
Houston won 45-35 after having led 45-7 into the third quarter.
UTEP red-shirt freshman quarterback Blair Sullivan, subbing for ineptness in two other q'backs, led the Miners to four straight TDs. He came in after UTEP had committed six turnovers.
It was like the EMT put one last push on the dead man's chest, and the dead man winked, put up a right fist ... and at least went to 2-7 with a fight.
There cannot be a winning season with three games to go.
But Sullivan put on a good performance, and showed a good passing arm, in his bid to be the No. 1 quarterback the rest of this season.
The man with that wink and the right fist in the air, I think, was Coach Mike Price. He's probably not going to make it to next season, but there was no quit in his team.
I think this game mite of saved Price for another few seasons.

Even though the outcome was all but decided in the 4th quarter, anyone out there doubt the wisdom of getting the future QB for the Miners some playing time?
Glad Price isn't playing for next year. There are still games to be won THIS year.

Joe,
Have you heard from anyone at UTEP if Mike Price will be coming back or if there will just be a change in his coaching staff?

jUTEP football is almost over. Actually it was over a month ago, but there are still three games left! Coach Cupcake is in the final year of his contract, and hopefully his final season at jUTEP. Bob Stull needs to clean house of the entire jUTEP coaching staff. There has to be a young hungry assistant coach out there willing to take over the reins. I don’t care if the new coach only sticks around for a couple of years before leaving for greener pastures. Coach Cupcake needs to go, and he needs to go NOW!

I think UTEP is mostly those kids wearing the uniform and getting the degree that says UTEP on it. So no matter who the coach is, we have to support the student-athletes. Nobody's happy at 2-7 with three to play. But let's say Sullivan gets hot, the defense picks it up because they're getting more from the offense and the fans circle the wagons and actually do show up in decent numbers for UCF and Rice. That's a better result than not showing up.I personally hate certain wrinkles in this team's offense. This shotgun with hand-offs, it's time-warping me back to the days of David Lee's horrendous wrap-around draw, the infamous WAD. But even David Lee teaches us a lesson because after he nose-dived with the WAD, he became an offensive innovator in the NFL. I feel like next season, no matter who the coach is, is a bowl schedule if there ever was one. UTEP will, in theory, be able to win every game that we know of next season. There are no big boys on the schedule in 2013. Just the new C-USA (8 games) plus at New Mexico State, New Mexico and at Colorado State. If the athletic department is smart, UTEP will add a 1-AA team in Week 1 to get the ball rolling. We've got to get a recruiting guru in our next coach because that's the tallest mountain to climb when you're at UTEP.
