Both sides of Minerdom must agree on this: It's time for the UTEP football team to beat somebody.
Beating New Mexico State is not beating "somebody," not any more.
Since the Miners' season opener against Oklahoma, the sides in Minerdom have been:
"The team fared well against three BCS schools"
vs.
"But a loss is still a loss."
East Carolina is 2-2, and looking about the same as the 1-3 Miners.
UTEP's offense has staggered; it's not known if that groin injury to Nathan Jeffery means he's still the Nathan Jeffery who almost had 200 yards against Oklahoma. He seems to have lost his giddy-up.
UTEP has been playing decent defense, albeit long pass plays are still the Miners' bain. And UTEP's best player in the secondary, Richard Spencer, is out for the year with an injury.
Those can be excuses. But no more of that stuff. It's time for the Miners, if they really are any good, to beat somebody.
I agree, sheesh. I think we all saw this loss coming.
That would be the day where we actually win a game on the east coast. When players this week were telling the media that the games against Oklahoma/Wisconsin/Ole Miss made them stronger, I thought, well you better go prove it at ECU.
I don't think these big money games all clustered together at the beginning of the season like this was a good idea, and now we can only lose two more games if we want to go to a bowl.

If history is any indication, another losing season is in store. You wonder why the Mountain West didn't want us, and instead, took power houses like Utah State? Just take a look at the results of Saturday's game for the answer.

Tight ends were mentioned prior to the first game that they would have more influence on the offense. I have not seen that happen. I think throwing to the tight ends more over and down the middle passes would help our offense. We have to give Jeffery a place to run. SMU was a really disappointing loss. I do look for better offense against Tulsa. The defense is much better than last year. Our secondary went to sleep on one SMU touchdown. We have to stay focused.
