It was like Tulane of New Orleans brought along a Louisiana bog in a bucket, poured it on the floor, but in overtime UTEP's John Bohannon mucked through best for a 54-52 win. Not a college basketball score.
But win.
Neither team scored enough for a usual win. And UTEP, when the game was in doubt, had made only 3 of 13 free throws in the second half. And UTEP ... well, klang!
But. But. But.
It took a lot of just plain wading, but UTEP made it through.
What a win, without artful play, for a Miner team that would have, but didn't, virtually ensure a losing season. Now UTEP is "up to" 12-13 with most of the regular season still to be played on the road - where the Miners are 0-7.
Still, winning in overtime is a positive. And Bohannon made two clutch baskets inside that mire, plus hit a free throw.
Tulane missed game-winner attempts in regulation and again at the end of the overtime.
Tulane is now 2-7 on the road this season.
Waiting to see what Joe has to say about the UTEP game against Memphis. 2 days later and nothing.
