It seems the computer likes UTEP, probably more than ever in recent times. RealTimeRPI.com has the 3-3 Miners No. 69 among the 120 big schools in the nation (the site actually lists its ratings through No. 246 (Northern Colorado this week.)
UTEP is now the projected favorite over four of its final six opponents, including Saturday's Homecoming foe, Colorado State.
Here are the RealTimeRPI.com rankings for UTEP and its six opponents:
29 Southern Mississipi
68 Tulsa
69 UTEP
78 Central Florida
99 Colorado State
105 East Carolina
112 Rice
Saturday's 44-7 win over Tulane (now 136) could have been the catalyst game UTEP never seemed to get in the last four years. But let's not say UTEP has officially turned the corner and is heading up this time of the season instead of down as in the past four straight losing seasons.
Beating Colorado State is a must if UTEP is to have a good season. Putting up a fight vs. So. Miss. (29) in the Sun Bowl is a must, too.
And remember, in November games at UTEP, Coach Mike Price has a 9-18 record. In all his November games at Weber State, Washington State and UTEP, he's 34-60.
That's why the next two week are so important, even though both games are in October. Price has never been able to hold all the huzzah the Miners show early in seasons.
Great story - UTEP wins and now they get a 69, too.

The Miners are not a bad team but they're not that good either. If they build off of this last win, they could conceivably win out. If they return to the pattern of years past, they will have a losing season. I think they will continue to improve. Lamaison appears to be a better leader than Vittatoe. In fact, the entire team seems to have an improved attitude. If we're more talented than CSU, it's not by much. We will need to remain focused and hungry. That is the only way we will have a winning season.
