In UTEP's case, the "bright side" of the coming football season is the "unknown side."
Better to have a new quarterback and offensive line than to have starters returning from a bad season.
No doubt, a lot of college recruiters saw talent in QB Nick Lamaison. Tennessee did. He left there after the coach who recruited him left, and the new coach put in a non-Nick type of offense. Nick passes. UTEP Coach Mike Price's teams pass.
It's good to see that running back Joe Banyard is back and is not another Donald Buckram. Banyard is coming off a minor leg injury. Buchram was so-called "slightly injured" and "about ready to play" for weeks on end last year.
UTEP is picked by most to finish low in the Conference USA standings. But that's based on having lost its starting offense from last year's 6-7 season. Nobody can really know how good Lamaison and a virtually new group of receivers can do.
The big question, and this is a positive, too, is that the offensive line is new. Maybe the guys are good?

And he's playing for the right school too. When you have five winning seasons in 40 years, you don't have to worry about performing too well.

Joe is right... Trevor Vittatoe and Company were never winners, so it was kind of crazy to think they would do better after 4 losing seasons. Its kind of dumb to expect a different result with the same group of guys that couldn't get it done the first few times. Perhaps the new line and QB will turn out to be good, especially considering that Nick Lamaison is a proven passer that was picked up by Tennessee... For the first time Joe, I agree with you!

Newness is always exciting. Success will be even more exciting.
