Should UTEP freshman redshirt QB Javia Hall be moved to another position? Now? In Camp Socorro?
As Coach Mike Price said upon Hall's (6-1, 190) recruitment, he's to be the face of UTEP football.
Not if he's the backup quarterback.
Why should such a good athlete stand behind JC transfer Nick Lamiason for two years.
Too often a really good athlete stands on the sidelines with a clipboard when he could be all-conference if converted to another skill/talent/speed position.
This is just surmising. But often athletes come to UTEP and other such mid-size schools because they were promised a shot at quarterback. They turned down offers to the bigs, who want them to convert to another position.
The adage has been that the Texas's, Oklahoma's, et al the elites, recruit a half dozen quarterbacks and turn five of them into defensive backs or linebackers.
UTEP has a pretty good converted QB, linebacker Jeremy Springer.
Often the quarterback is the best athlete on his high-school team. If he was good enough to be recruited to an elite team as a defensive back, he could likely make all-conference at UTEP.
You're a joke, trying to stir up controversy.

UTEP has always been the Valley of 'Tweeners. That means players not quite big enough, fast enough, or skilled enough to play the position listed.
Hall has a slight build, even for a true freshman but UTEP should just keep him at QB. If Miners remember, UTEP great Rocky Perez looked no different than an El Paso high school QB coming in. Rocky was 5'10 160lbs but they had to play him because he was that good.
Only time will tell...

well what if Lamiason goes down with an injury at any point in the season??
Its not like Lamiason is gonna be here for 4 years either...only 2.
Perphaps Hall will take over after that. Or maybe not. maybe not. But having a good backup QB never hurts.

Joe you are ridiculous. It always seemed as though Hall was a longshot at winning the starting job and he was probably going to be redshirted, get 2 years to add to his frame and learn the ropes as a college QB. Then he would end up still being the starting QB for UTEP for 3 years when Lamaison is gone. I don't see why he would transfer. This is probably his best shot to play QB for a Division one program.

Whatever helps winning.

A talented athlete can make the transition. He could still come back as a QB. We cannot afford to have gifted players on the sideline. The time to win is now. Give it the best shot we have with the best players that we have.Javia Hall should be on the field.
