Now that Texas Tech has a new athletic director to replace the retiring Gerald Myers, does that mean Tech Basketball Coach Pat Knight is fired - and Billy Gillispie gets the job?
Seems like a great fit. Billy "Clyde" is a West Texas, clod-kickin' kinda guy. And he can win games. Look what he did at UTEP, and then at Texas A&M. He fizzled at Kentucky, but it wasn't because he tippled a few in the bars, as many contend. He didn't win enough, and he wanted to just coach, not mingle with the boosters. In Kentucky that 0-2 count is a strikekout.
Myers hired Bob Knight. The two are said to be close. Knight was virtually his own boss. When Bob Knight retired, his son, Pat, was given the job - automatically.
Tech has not been winning. In fact, neither Knight turned Tech into a Big 12 power. And they have that big arena to fill in Lubbock.
Tech announced today that Miami AD Kirby Hocutt will leave his position in Florida and take the same position in Lubbock.
it wasn't because he tippled a few in the bars, as many contend.

The man "tippled" more than just a few. At A&M, I saw Billy many a evenings at the Fox and Hound over on University Drive. He had his favorite booth over by the bar, across from the big screen TVs where he would sit with his A&M appointed driver and drink himself half blind (Billy, not the driver).
There were other rumors that surrounded him there as well, but it seems that even in conservative ole College Station certain "sins" are readily forgiven in return for winning teams. Seems Kentucky isn't so forgiving.

Great win over Memphis. I don't think Billy Clyde Gillispie is a loser as posted by another. Ky. is a very difficult place to Coach. We realize he could not turn down the Ky. job, but he should have never left A&M. Tim Floyd hopefully will retire at UTEP. We have trained enough Coaches for other schools. UTEP has ben a great stepping stone for some very talented Coaches.
