Did many here know that Tim "UTEP two-step" Hardaway even had a son?
UMHoops.com calls Junior, who is 6-foot-5, a lanky shooting guard who will fit into Coach John Beilein's spread-the-floor offense that relies heavily on 3-pointers.
On the "star" system, where 5 is considered the best, Tim Hardaway Jr. is a 3.That's not anything official, but it's how recruiting fanatics rate players.
He apparently chose Michigan over other offers. We'll not know if Dad's alma mater, UTEP, was among the wooers. Schools can't advertise who they seek. However, Hardaway's name hasn't popped up around UTEP, and there are certainly enough people who follow recruiting and make it their hobby to know who Coach Tony Barbee and his staff are seeking.
Anyway, one of the two most famous UTEP alums (with Nate Archibald), Tim Hardaway, has a son who is talented in basketball.
I brought up Tim Bug jr. on another board earlier this year along with Antonio Davis' daughter who is very highly sought after B-Ball recruit.
Their connection to UTEP was coach Haskins.

I wonder just like you if UTEP was even on his radar? You would think that his father at least would have push alittle bit for UTEP. I guess Toasted Whitebred is correct, the connection to Utep was Coach Haskins. I am not so sure this is a good thing for Utep, doesn't say a whole lot about the "Utep Program". I would say most kids connections is the school whether or not their father, relatives played. Haskins was great, had a solid program, but those who have followed have not done a good program promoting the "Utep Program".
Oh well, Good Luck LiL Bug !!!!

Dell Curry did not promote Virgina Tech very well to his son Stephen. Bill Walton and Luke Walton. Sidney Green and Taurean Green. I could go on and on.
I don't think this says anything about UTEP except that Hardaway wasn't interested in his Dad's school. Nothing else.

Why would you want a player rated as a "3" on a scale of 1-5? Is that how low the bar is set at UTEP?

Speaking of former miner spawn, Frances Ezenwa has a son playing for Bowie that, I understand is a big time talent. Rumors are that Barbee and staff have started to take a look at him.

He is a very good player but he needs some development. He's 6-4 and playing the post. He needs to get quicker and work on his ball handling and shooting. He was everything to Bowie last year. It was all about dumping the ball to Ezenwa with a few sharp shooters thrown into the mix. They could be a team to watch in 4A. I don't think he's D-1 material yet.

Come on Floyd. When has UTEP ever been a magnet for 4 and 5 star recruits? The answer is never. We have gotten a couple here and there but for th emost part UTEP has always drawn 2 to 3 star guys.

nate archibald, antonio davis, and tim hardaway were all 3's or lower. Tim already had a few children when he was attending UTEP.
