In the clutch
In the clutch, on the road, with fewer than 20 seconds to play, and behind by 1 point, Stefon Jackson got a good shot — he made it!
That goes a long way in building a whole team's confidence. And most of the Miners will be around for several more years, so the quicker there are good results in the clutch the better the team gets.
The Miners were previously winless in road Conference-USA games. At Marshall Wednesday they faced a team that usually wins at home. They didn't beat some patsy.
Players will always say they believe in their future successes. But seeing is believing — believing it even more.
Mark down Wednesday's win as a construction block in the building of the Coach Barbee program.

About time. Now let's see some consistency on the road.
I hope those 20 point road blowouts are in the past.
19 days till the Conference tournaments start.
March Madness is around the corner!

There's still a glimmer of hope for post season play.

1) Does UTEP need to place second in the tournament to make the NIT or be a bubble team?
2) Who wins this weekend Memphis or Tennessee?

I've been saying it all year, Jackson needs to try and take these road games over whether we end up on the winning end or we lose. I'd rather see him take and miss the last shot than not take it at all. Its like that old Jordan commercial where he says he's missed a bunch of winning shots, but that's why he succeeded...its right here...

Keep taking them DJ, this team goes as he does.
We pretty much have to run the table to even have a sniff at the NIT, I dont see that happening with homes games against UAB and UH and a road game at Southern Miss.
UAB and UH really need every win they can get, interestingly enough UAB is the last team out on Joe Lunardi's Bracketology.
He thinks CUSA will get two teams in.
Memphis 86
Tenn 80
Memphis playin at home, too much experience for the Tigers.

The NCAA will not take Utep as the C-USA runner up. NIT will.
Memphis is big and bad but, the Vols love to press and are at home. I say Tennessee by 8.

The Memphis-Tennessee game is in Memphis this year. They played in Knoxville last season.

Memphis-Tenn. My prediction: the team that misses the most free throws loses.
Posted by: Maven | February 21, 2008 at 02:33 PM
WTG Miners. Nice to see DJ come through in the clutch and nice to see Ramalho hit two big free throws. Maybe the lights are coming on.
Also, is this OUR Claudia Porras. If it is I ain't missing any more Lady Miner games.

Claudia!!
This Aggie is catching some of that "miner fever".
Are there any bikini pictures of Coach Keitha Adams? If yes, please share.

UTEP ladies hoops clutch when it counted the most down 10 pts or so with like 3 minutes to go and jareica was amazing or just the overall performance sending the game that seemed lost to overtime and then a win.
Is history in the making and now is time to put that banner from the rafters of the Bears Den way to go, Congratulations on your excellent performance on such a special season go Miners.
PS: Claudia is a really
gorgeous woman (estas en fuego!!!)

USM gave the Lady Miners all they could handle. They've still managed to come out of there with at least a share of the CUSA title.
JC, thanks for sharing the Claudia photos; man that loose Miners uniform doesn't do her justice. Oh, if there's pictures of Coach Keitha Adams, please don't share!

What a difference a week makes...It looks like our mens team is gaining some momentum and our womens team should wrap up the
C-USA title outright today.
It felt like our mens team hit rock bottom with last weeks loss to Tulsa and were now tied for fourth place.
I expect a monster crowd for this weeks game against UAB and am getting ready to see UTEP when they play in Dallas. Hopefully they can make it 3 in a row this wednesday.
Tough loss for Memphis, but a hell of a game...
I personally think its good to go into the tourney with a loss, but not good for people who hate on CUSA.
I still think their good enough to go all the way.
I would be surprised, no SHOCKED if NMSU doesnt win the WAC tourney.
The WAC did terrible in bracketbuster weekend. I mean Boise got blasted at home by Siena, Nevada got pounded by SIU.
March Madness is right around the corner...should be interesting, more claudia, no keitha please!!

I think the Miners have figured out that their best chance is to let the best player on the court go off on their opponents and ride his coat tails. Good for the Miners and bad for the rest of the teams on the schedule.
It's been nice that Memphis has been doing well this year. If they continue to shoot free throws in the sub 50% range, don't be surprised if they don't make it into the final four in the tournament. They are even a poorer free throw shooting team than NMSU up the road.
Speaking of them Aggies, they are finally playing the way people expected them to at the beginning of the year. That Pope kid and the guard that both started after the fall semester have made them into a dangerous team. Glad we played them earlier in the year when those two weren't around.

Maven,
As much as I hate losing (twice) to Utep. I'd rather give up those wins for a shot at the NCAA tournament.
Your right Pope and Young have helped and the chemistry is there. The biggest question with this team is consistency.
Are we over the hump? We'll find out Thursday at Nevada

Mumme,
You guys had a bit of that Memphis bug down in your place. I agree, if you're gonna lose, best to do it before conference than during.
