Coach departure?
Heard: UTEP Defensive Cooridinator Tim Hundley to Minnesota as a position coach. Let's see if it's true.
Side note: Please, please cut with the juvenile bantor about the Miners and/or Aggies being rooked by the refs.

UTEP sports blog: Joe Muench has been a sports writer and a sports editor in El Paso for decades, but he’s best known as the columnist everyone loves to talk about. His UTEP athletics blog starts up the conversation again.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Coach departure?:
Minnesota is terrible and Hundley is not the answer.
If he leaves, he should take that worthless, Woody Widenhofer w/ him!
Both Utep and NMSU will benefit from the departures of there DC's!
The only ones complaining about the refs are jwest and monchis and the their team won!!
Like I said before, I didn't watch the game so, I can't comment on the officiating.
If you two think a Utep loss is the refs fault. Grow up, something is wrong w/ you.
Then again these two still believe in Santa Claus!

I pray to the man upstairs that NMSU replaces Widenhofer with Hundley. Then NMSU would have the "smartest defensive coordinator in the country" and the week we would play NMSU, Terrel Jackson, Jeff Moturi and Trevor Vivattoe will all win in a three-way tie for Conference Players of the Week

Flava,
Bite your tongue! ;)
Thanks for the offer but, Utep or Minnesota can keep him.
So the refs almost cost Utep the game last night, huh?
I suppose the lines on the court are also jumping up and tripping up the players.
Cut it out guys. Remember, Santa's watching!

The refs had nothing to do with the outcome of the game last night. Talent and desire were the crucial factors. That and some timely "Aggie's suck" chants from the student section. NMSU played scared the second half. Home cooking, its whats for dinner.

I can see why you all defend the refs so much. This is mostly and Aggie blog anyway so I'll just let you all have sit. Hundleys not going anywhere. Who wants a DC with the worst defense in D-1

Saying Hundley is gonna be offered a job somewhere else is like saying Price is going to be offered a job as well. Two years ago (after our 2nd 8-4, bowl season) that would have sounded legitimate but who is going to want Price now, especially at his age? Age is definitely not the only reason, his November, 2nd-half win-loss record is abyssmal and he has NEVER had three consecutive winning seasons. His record has done nothing but go downhill just like each season the past four years (8-4 in 04', 8-4 in 05', 5-7 in 06',and 4-8 in 07'). That is not a good resume for a team that wants someone to come in and make a drastic change. By no means am I a Price-hater, I'm just stating the facts because he is a great man, person and coach to his players but he is not on anyone's radar as far as coaching searches are concerned. Of course Washington State will "say" that because of the respect they have for him like we do, but I'm sure they don't want to go that route again. Just watch within the next few weeks and you will call me a prophet. P.S. To any team in Conference USA or NMSU: We have a defenseless defensive coordinator, PLEASE offer him a job!!!

If Joe is right about Tim Hundley then Hundley is getting demoted from DC to position coach. There is no risk in Minnasota. I don't know why everybody keeps thinking that such an offer is ludacris. Usually when a coach or coordinator gets fired or resigns, you see them pop up at another school as a position coach. So this is a very realistic scenario for Hundley.
On a side note, Houston just lost their head coach to Baylor.

The reasons for UTEP's poor defense were many and may or may not have been the fault of the defensive coordinator. Jon is right about coaches being fired and popping up at other schools as coaches. David Lee and Gary Nord are examples of head coaches being fired and then being scooped up by other universities who see their experience and expertise as an asset to their program. You can criticize all you want but Hundley is respected around college football circles.

UTEP won fair and square, period! There was no homecooking, however plenty of bonehead calls from incompetent officials, were to be had for both sides!
That should put to rest any whining about the officials.
So Hundley is as good as gone eh, well hope coach Price can bring in a defensive coach that can simplify the defensive schemes!
We all know that UTEP players, besides playing scared, aren't smart enough either to grasp complex defensive schemes!
Maybe they'll understand, "cover that receiver don't let him catch a pass", "please make an effort to tackle an opposing plyer"!
"Gentlemen, the objective of the defense is to keep opposing receivers from catching a pass, and keeping the opposing offense out of our endzone"!
What do you think, too over simplified?

If Coach Hundley is leaving, then that will give Coach Price the opportunity to make a good coaching change. With the Doba being fired at Wash. ST. then there might be a good chance that Price will offer Doba a job as the Defensive Coordinator. After all, Doba was Price's defensive coordinator at WSU. I can pretty much guarentee that Hundley won't pass up a job at another school now that he knows that there's a ton of pressure on him. Doba has been to El Paso in the past so that would influence his decision to come here as a DC.

By the looks of things, coach Price is as good as gone!
Now that he's been vindicated, everyone is looking for a coach of Price's caliber. Returning to WS for far more money than he earns here is a windfall for coach Price!
So-long coach, it was nice while it lasted, too bad you couldn't get UTEP over the hump!
If you couldn't do it, nobody will be able to do it either!
El Paso is just too isolated and not very well thought of nationally, to reach any significant heights or prominence in football!
I guess coach Price has finally seen the futility in trying to resurrect UTEP's football fortunes, and has finally had enough.

-Coach Price stays.
-UTEP coaches recruiting great athletes but not so great in the classroom could contribute to such a terrible defense. Apparently Nord knew how to recruit 'em.
-Doesn't help when you're D-line is about as big as your receiving core. That bulk other than Brandis Dew is padding.
-If Hundley does leave, you'd better believe that even if he's being demoted, he'll probably get similar money if not more. It's in his best interest to leave if money is the issue.
-Whomever picks him up will have a valuable asset on the coaching staff.
-Stop whining about UTEP beating NMSU. They had to win one of them this year.
