We all knew this tournament was going to be tough. UTEP certainly did not get an easy matchup in the quarterfinals -- but neither did Memphis (in Southern Miss).
Everyone who watched now 22-win Marshall here just over a week ago was impressed. The Thundering Herd are big, athletic and rebound with a fury.
UTEP has one thing that might help a little. John Bohannon was suspended for that game. The 6-foot-10 freshman is a bit frail compared to the big Marshall inside bodies. But he has had his moments rebounding and, along with Julyan Stone and Jeremy Williams, has been among UTEP's top rebounders this season.
Tulsa will probably await the Miners if UTEP gets past Marshall. No easy task there, either. The Miners and Tulsa split their two games this season.
The ideal championship game would have been UTEP-UAB, but not anymore thanks to East Carolina pulling off the upset.
It should be fun.
