A look at the current Conference USA basketball standings looks as if it has been flipped upside down.
Houston, Tulsa, UAB and UTEP are the final four teams. Tulane, Southern Miss, Rice and UCF are the top four.
In years past, that has been flipped. Of course, Southern Miss is always strong. And, of course, you can't make too much out of pre-conference standings. Different teams play different quality schedules.
This might be a tough year for UAB and UTEP, though. Both lost plenty from last year's teams. Houston is 4-4 after losing at home to Texas State. Tulsa, expected to be pretty good, is 4-6. UAB is 2-6 and UTEP is 1-4.
Tulane is off to a shocking 10-1 start. Southern Miss, No. 6 in the NCAA RPI, is 7-2. Rice and UCF are next at 6-2.
Of course, Memphis is right there at 5-2 and the Tigers are the prohibitive favorite to win this league. But don't count out Southern Miss.
Yeah, but look at who Tulane has played.

My question is, isn't UTEP womens basketball part of Division I basketball? Then why aren't the Lady Miners getting any votes on the rankings? I see some of the teams that are 7-2, 8-3 that are in the top 25 polls list but, here are the Lady Miners going for 11-0 record but not in the rankings, what is wrong with that picture? It really bothers me that UTEP athletics is not considered/noted in college sports!

My wish for Christmas this year is that UTEP beats Houston and Rice in both mens and womens basketball. UTEP gets no respect in Houston or from their Houston Sports section of the paper. They list all area and Texas teams every Football and Basketball season, but never mention UTEP. They will UTEP womens basketball should be mentioned in the top 20 by now, but sense they are out of El Paso, no one feels that any UTEP team is good. Especially from El Paso.
