Saturday night and Tuesday night are great examples of life with freshmen.
Saturday night was brutal. But things are never as bad as they seem. Tuesday night the Miners had a chance to beat a pretty decent Oregon team. Things might not be as good as they seem.
Whatever the case, the season will be an adventure.
Still, there is a lot of talent among this young group and they are growing every day. Coach Tim Floyd had a three hour practice Monday morning before hopping on a plane for Oregon. During that, he jokingly said "We got beat by 18 by Stephen F. Austin and I haven't used one expletive yet."
He talked of remaining patient and that is exactly what he and his staff have done. It will be a season that requires some patience. But it should be a fun season — watching this group grow.
Speaking of fun seasons, the UTEP women are off to a tremendous start. They will meet Lamar here Thursday night and receive a hefty challenge Saturday at New Mexico. But this is a good team with all the parts — good, quick guard play, size inside and great athleticism throughout the roster.
There's a lot of work to be done with this team. Floyd really needs to drill the team on making FREE THROWS!!! If we had made our free throws, we would have beaten Oregon.

Shooting will come (including free throws) with improved mechanics. Washburn is a hell of an athlete but his shooting mechanics are very ackward. The important thing right now is defense and rebounding. The offense will come. It was nice to see Perez have a good game together with Bohannon. It was great to see Gabe back on the court as well.
