Basketball practice will begin across the country on Friday.
One new look under the hoop will be the block-charge arc that they have used in the NBA for years. The NCAA said it was doing it for safety reasons. But it should also make it a tiny bit easier on officials, once they get used to it.
The arc is right below the basket and if a defender has his foot on or inside the arc then there will be no charge called on the play. Obviously, if a defender camps out under the bucket, he does not deserve to get a charge call.
