ESPN released the bracket for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Wednesday and UTEP will open against Clemson.
The Miners will play Clemson, a 22-12 NCAA Tournament team with three starters returning, at 1 p.m. MST on Dec. 22. That game will be televised on ESPNU. The Miners will then play either Kansas State or Southern Illinois in the second round — depending on wins and losses.
The tournament is co-hosted by ESPN and the University of Hawaii. Auburn, Long Beach State, Xavier and Hawaii are also in the tournament. Tony Barbee's Auburn team is in the bottom half of the bracket so Auburn and UTEP would have to match each other in wins and/or losses the first two games to play each other.
There will be no games on Dec. 24 and all eight teams will play one last game on Christmas Day. The championship game will be at 8 p.m. MST on Christmas night, televised on ESPN2.
