UPDATE: Bill Knight has quickly confirmed that Tim Floyd will be named UTEP basketball coach.
Earlier post: The day "Randall Dickey looks to be atop UTEP men's basketball coach list" appears in the Times, I come in to work and find this on Twitter:
gabrielmartinez: via Krod SportsTalkers FB Heard that UTEP is on the way to Louisiana to pick up Tim Floyd to introduce him as UTEP's next head coach.
Tough to keep up with the changing winds.

El Paso 411 tweeted it about 45 mins ago, this is great news!!

Now that it's been confirmed by everyone, time to give a shout out to KROD. They were out front, and everyone's tweets came after Kaplowitz said it on KROD.
Then, after that, nice work by everybody to confirm it within 45 minutes or so. A fun morning, and a bright future for UTEP!

Caesar, yup, but the tweet Jay is citing came out 15 mins before the one you are talking about did ;-)

I like Kaplowitz, but it's funny to say he was out front when, 24 hours ago, he made the wrong announcement.

Not sure if this is the best thing for the Miners in the long run. Understandable that Floyd is a hometown favorite of the fans but like many a general manager has said, "if you listen to the fans, pretty soon you'll be one". In other words unemployed.
Don Haskins, with Floyd as an assistant, was great at taking players with adequate talent and skills and producing good teams. Gillispie (not the right choice either) and Barbee find players with superior athleticism, the type UTEP rarely sees, to put on the floor. The Duke's, Kentucky's, and Kansas's of the world do this all the time. Many players in the world can nail 20 foot jump shots all day but do not have the athleticism to go with it. Athleticism cannot be taught. You either have it or you don't.
I have heard a number of coaches say that they look for athleticism, they feel that they can teach you the rest. I do wish Floyd and the Miners luck. It would be nice to get rid of the "mid-major" label.
