A novel idea is coming to fruition this fall in Auburn, Ala. And I, for one, am hoping it ends up in El Paso some day.
The Associated Press reports that Auburn football tailgaters who would rather fork over a few hundred — or even a few thousand — dollars than pack their cars with coolers and chairs are in luck.
Auburn has partnered with a company called Tailgate Guys for fully loaded tailgate spots with prices ranging up to $4,275 for the eight-game home schedule. Individual game prices run from $300 to $1,250.
The Varsity and All Auburn packages include tents, chairs and tables set up and taken down for the tailgaters, along with a guaranteed spot. Those who really want to tailgate in style can pay extra for catering and parking.
Sound awesome to you?
No more dealing with amateur hour tailgating crowds at UTEP games, who park two cars across five parking spaces and then place lawn chairs in five others to save space for friends who don’t arrive until hours later. Some of the more advanced hoggers bring their own orange cones.
Then there’s the security folks who don’t seem to grasp that most of the campus is free for tailgating and try to boot you from a prime spot near Cotton Memorial that you’ve staked out for hours. And those same security folks will later try to sneak a look at your 42-inch TV tuned to the best college football action of the day as if all’s well.
It can be a pain. And a program such as the one being implemented at Auburn would be one I’d be willing to pay for to avoid the hassle.
Anyone wanna share their horror stories?
Just wait until November when fair-weather fans stop going to games. You can have 20 parking spots.

Well, when I tailgate in Lawrence ... just kidding, OrangeFever.
Mi familia usually avoids UTEP tailgating hassles by starting early and parking FAR away from the stadium. We could use the walk after an afternoon of hot dogs, anyway.

I wanna tailgate with you before (and especially after) the Kansas game Jay....
Go Miners ! Yes We Can !

WOW! Have you been doing this long? (Rookie Mistake) UTEP has been doing this longer than auburn. Its called Glory Field. It does not surprise me that you do no research and post this crap! The Times needs to look into way they pay you. I mean really? Did you even think to pick up a phone and call UTEP about this. I guess that is what you get for an aggie education. Try doing some work!!!! let the Times know, i can do what you do and they can even pay me half.

Jaegermike:
Glory Field is for UTEP alumni and their guests. I think Pablo has a great idea for all Miner fans. So back off.

Ah this sounds like it's a great idea for fat lazy fans who are to tired to cheer at the game as well. GREAT! JK, I was wondering if there would be a change in the parking lot chaos, cuz thats the real problem! These past few years have been terrible, the blue blood fans are off in the boonies having a good time, than you take a four mile walk to the stadium and my blood boils as I get closer and the parking lots closest to the sun bowl are nearly empty! Great use of parking space UTEP! I pay for parking in the garage, so it's not like I'm a cheap bastard, but I have to walk to where my friends are set up, which is usually the mesa lot. Sucks!

Miner Fan- Jaegermike point was they still pay to tailgate there (fees, membership, sponsorship). This idea wouldn't fly in El Paso you already have people who complain that $12 for a ticket is too much now tack on a fee to tailgate..they'll run to the hills. I think a simple solution is not ticket no tailgate. If you have a ticket you can tailgate at anytime... the univeristy isn't losing money you already paid for the ticket. What ruins it is those punks that do all of the before mention d bag moves and just go get drunk and leave because they have no place to drink other then a tailgate.

They've been doing this in the northeast for a couple of years.

Seems like only a matter of time before they franchise it all over.

Utep parking is terrible. Parking 5 miles away only to have your car towed is not the way to go.
I've seen people park at Asarco and then haul ass across I-10!!
NMSU is ideal. Yes the visitors lot can be better but, your only a 5 minute walk to the stadium and best of all...parking is free!

Jaegermike, thanks for bringing up Pepsi Miner Town. It is a good option for many people. However, it differs from Auburn's program in that you can't bring your own food, equipment and, most importantly, booze. There also aren't parking spots involved, for the most part. And as Miner fan points out, it is primarily used by the UTEP Alumni Association (of which I am a member). Not a bad thing, but it's a different sort of atmosphere. Btw, thanks for helping me save some face, Miner fan. And Zach, thanks for the tip on tailwaiters.com.

I dont understand why there is a misconception of pepsi miner town only being for UTEP Alumni Association. This is not the case at all. Anyone can rent a tent through the Athletics department. You can bring your own food. booze is different because of TABC. I have attached the website.

Thanks for the link, Jaegermike!
Mmmm, would only set me back $600 a game, or $3,000 a season! Thanks for the great solution, I'll get right on that.
At least I will my Megamillions numbers come through.
