One of the ways you used to be able to judge how well Don Haskins thought his Miners were doing was The Agi-test. The more visibly agitated The Bear was, the more and louder he spoke, the more upset you knew he was. Very much a disciple of The Bear, UTEP head coach Tim Floyd is the same way.
The Miners 79-49 win over Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday night was a very quiet night.
How could it not be with five players in double figures, a smothering defense that held the Warhawks leading scorers in check much of the game and UTEP's little big men dominating in the paint?
The real question is, How much do you learn from a game like this?
But there were lessons that Floyd was glad his UTEP squad seems to be getting, like receiving consistent effort from his bench, even in garbage time.
Floyd talked about that, as well as addressing a few El Paso Times Letters to the Editor from fans upset that UTEP players' shooting totals are no longer displayed on the giant scoreboard at the Haskins Center.
