Oy. It was a rough weekend for the UTEP Miners and their head coach, ripped apart at the hands of the heat, the humidity...oh yeah, and the No. 2 Texas Longhorns. Nasty business on Saturday and it gets no easier this weekend as the 12th-ranked Houston Cougars come to El Paso to start the Conference USA season.

UTEP head coach Mike Price reviewing the craziness of the Miners 38-12 win over New Mexico State, a game delayed by three hours by lightning, and previewing the coming craziness as UTEP heads to Austin for a Saturday afternoon tilt against the No. 2 Texas Longhorns. Along the way, Coach Price whips out a picture of a UTEP fan sitting all by his lonesome at Aggie Memorial Stadium. As Price puts it -- "...he sat out in the wet, in the rain, in aluminum metal bleachers while lightning was striking all around him..." The fan is longtime Miners booster and one of the "H"'s of H&H Carwash fame, Maynard Haddad.

...You don't know what NMSU's been doing with it the last two years. A happy group of Miners finally has something to sing about after their 38-12 handling of New Mexico State, even if the band isn't there to serenade them. (They left after the lightning delay...Huh?!)

What can you say, except that it was was incredibly boring and what else can you do waiting for weather to clear locked in a box (not that we'd like being locked OUT of the box). As this is written, after a nearly two-hour delay due to the lightning, wind and rain, the Battle of I-10 is about to resume. Some of these fans are even still here...SOME of them...
