advice to incoming freshmen
New freshmen, the only advice I can give you to make a good first
impression by showing up on time to every class; this will soften the teachers up
and keep them from getting you into trouble. The second thing is to get good
grades, pay attention, and do your homework. Cesar Primo
If I could give any advice to the incoming freshmen I would tell them
that the first six weeks is the hardest. When your teachers tell you to
study, you should really listen. Actually, when a teacher ever gives
you a chance to listen or gives you advice, take it graciously. The
first day of school be will fine, and don’t be scared. There will
always be someone standing by. Ashley Payne
My advice to coming freshman is try not to think popularity is
everything. Another really big point is do not go and party. I'm talking
about the parties that contain boos. These parties do not bring any
good. They only consist of drunk low life's that will not amount to any
thing and other not very good things. Try and take Pre-AP classes this
will help your GPA . Also do not slack off freshman year colleges look
at your grades this year. Samantha Rago
The advice I have to incoming Freshmen is to not take AP classes, if you
cannot handle it, because it just makes things harder on you while
you’re taking the class. If you drop out, it makes it hard the next
semester. Also, get involved in extra-curricular activities, because
they are a lot of fun and you make a lot of good friends. My last
advice is to really try hard the whole school year and try to not have
any regrets when the end of the school year comes. Matt Vasquez
Incoming freshmen. Well, there isn't much to say to them really. I mean
like high school is hard. You have to work hard, and it all pays off. I
found out the hard way, but high school is no different from middle
school. You just have to work your way to the top, and you have to work
really hard to get there. Just don't slack off. Nick Barrentine
High school is not what its cut out to be. In movies they make high
school seem like it’s hell. It’s really not that bad. The way I first
saw high school, it was like land of opportunity. It’s where you get to
explore and try new things. Start off with a clean slate. Trouble
doesn't look for you; you have to look for trouble. Here you must be on
top of everything from school work to credits, sports, clubs even your
lunch money. Grades are constantly changing. Just because you had a 73
in math last week doesn't really mean it will stay or go higher. You
could be failing. How do figure that out? Ask your teachers, and you
have to be demanding; you have to make it seem like you care. If you’re
going to ask, don't ask in a middle of the teacher’s lesson; that's
really rude. Also, you’re not supposed to know what you’re going to do
for the rest of life in your freshman year. All my life I was set on
doing psychology. I loved hearing people problems and asking them how
they felt about it. But I really liked making speeches promoting
broadcast, filming all that good stuff. Don't shut your mind. The great
thing about Coronado is that it lets you explore in many ways. Karla
Estrada
I will tell freshmen that it’s not cool to be in Spanish, when you know
Spanish. The class will be boring a year. Another thing I will tell
freshmen is that if you want to learn algebra, take Mr. Mena’s class You
will learn a lot from him. Another teacher that you have to have its Ms.
Peterson. She’s cool, because she makes you laugh. She’s also strict,
and that makes you learn a lot, too. A teacher you shouldn't have is Mr.
Hunter, because his exams are very hard. Victor Terrazas
Middle school is NOTHING compared to high school, trust me. Middle
school is so much uneeded drama and problems, while high school is where
everyone can just get along, and there’s no judgment. High school is
actually pretty easy, too… Well, if you just do the work, and let me
tell you it is so much fun! So if you’re dreading next year aba freshie, don’t even worry about it. I'm still a freshman (at the moment), and I think I'm doing just fine.. :D Vianni Paquain
End of the year has finally come, and I've met teachers and people who
changed my life entirely. It was my first year at a public school.
Coming from a private one, I thought I wouldn't fit in. I judged wrong.
It is an experience that you'll never forget. Incoming students!!
Please, listen to my advice. Although it is going to seem awesome the
few months of school meeting new people having more LIBERTY, don't lose
focus on school. Trust me. The last few months, weeks or days of the
entire year and the more dreadful ones. Stressing out, passing a course,
and trying the hardest. Instead you could relax the last couple of weeks
and enjoy the end of your Freshman year. Don't get late to any classes!
Oh, and always have a pen and paper with you at all times. When you come
here, please don't act like you’re all that. It’s extremely annoying.
Best teachers are Mr. Miranda, Mrs. Peterson, and Mrs. Nazarian! They
are the nicest teachers you'll ever get! Freshman year gone...hello
Sophomore year!!! Natalie Serna
This week's blog is about us [freshmen] giving advice to the incoming
freshmen that will enter Coronado High School in september. Here's some
advice and suggestions that I would personally give them:
Don’t be scared to enter high school. Some people may say that high
school is hard and complicated, but I personally think that it's not.
Sure, you have to make an effort to get good grades, work hard, and do
your work as you were doing in middle school, but it's mostly all the
same. You need to work hard to get your credits if you want to graduate.
You also need to follow the rules of the school, which are pretty much
the same from every other school: no cell phones, no electronic devices
in class, do listen to the teachers, be well-behaved, etc.
Some teachers that I would personally recommend to the incoming
freshmen, are;
'Ms. Grenier- Spanish teacher. She's a really nice teacher and really
helps you understand what you are doing.
'Mr. Miranda- geography teacher. He is a really open-minded person and
you will surely enjoy his class.
'Ms. Peterson- English teacher. She is a really good, funny teacher. You
will surely too have a good time in her class.
'Mr. Mena- algebra teacher. He is a really great teacher. He's got a
great way of teaching and explaining problems.
But no matter which teachers you get, be polite to them and do your
best.
One last thing I'd like to say is to just enjoy high school; it's
barely starting, so make your freshmen year a great year(; Nereyda
Villa
One of the things that I would tell to the incoming freshman is that
they need to grow up now, because the teachers nor the assistant
principals are going to put up with our crap. Don’t be late, and don’t
ditch. If you get too many tardies, you will get a referral. If you get
too many referrals, you will go to alternative. Do your work in class
and your homework and you will pass. Last thing, just don’t act stupid,
because you are going to be a freshman a whole different thing from
middle school. It’s not the same now. Just follow the rules. Casas,
Celeste
I’m so happy that the school year is almost over. This was my first year
in high school, and it was very good. Some kids think it’s a hard first
year and that it will be scary, but actually it is a fantastic year.
There is a lot of change from a middle school to a high school. My
advice would be to do always your best!! Priscilla Pallares
The only advice I would give an incoming freshman would be to act
themselves and try not to get caught up with so much work. It’s great to
have good grades, but you need to have fun while doing it. Join as many
clubs as you can to get to know people. Don’t let upperclassmen put you
down. High school is really fun! Presilla Gonzalez
I have some advice for the new class next year. Don't be mean to your
teacher!! That’s twill not respect you. Don't get into fights at all; they are not worth
it. Especially when you have to see the principal or vice principal or
even go to alternative, because then you spend the rest of the semester
there. And it SUCKS!!! Kaitlan Devore
My advice to incoming freshmen is don't be nervous at all. Being a
freshman is nothing; just relax ,and keep your cool. Hang out with your
friends from middle school. It is good to stay around people you already
know. You won’t be as nervous. One thing that I did is go walk around
the school a couple days before school starts and find all your classes.
It helps a lot. Another thing is play a sport. You meet a lot of people
with the same interests as you. Have a good year and just RELAX!
Travis Akhtari
My advice to incoming freshmen is to stay out of trouble and show up to
class on time. It’s not like middle school anymore when you pass and
you move on to the next grade. You have to pass and have all the
credits for that year. If you get more than two tardies and don’t show
up to detention, you will get one day of iss. The cool thing about your
freshman year is that you get to go out for lunch. Some of the teachers
won’t give you another day to turn in your homework; you will just get a
zero. All freshmen should be ready for a different way of school. Jacob
Garcia
I have tons of advice for you soon to be 9th graders, but I am only
going to talk about three teachers that you should have or stay away
from. Next year, try to get Mrs. Peterson, because she is an awesome
teacher and because she is grading this blog right now. Also you should
try to get Mr. Pounds, because he is really cool. So those are some of
the teachers that you watch out for and have next year at Coronado.

This year as a freshman has been a blast !! I've had the most fun in
Band especially. I'd just like to let the incoming freshmen that they
may think that band is easy , but they’re going to be in for a cruel
awakening. They'll have to wake up at 6 in the Morning every day until
the last 3 weeks of school. I hope they don't think they have a long
summer because they don't well not any more. We start band in August 3
MARCHING BAND which is on a Monday. It would be just like summer school
,except a lot more fun it will be from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Well for all
the Freshman I wish them luck in High school it is nothing like Middle
school so I hope they'll do just fine . Gilbert Villagrana
There is one piece of advice and one only. Have fun, and don't let
anyone get in the way for your dreams. Work hard at school work and know
when to stop when you have had enough. The choices you make these four
years are the ones that you are making for the rest of your life. If you
ever need help with anything go to your counselors, teachers. Well good
luck and have a blast!!!! (: Altiha Reay
My advice for incoming freshman is to stay ontop of your grades at all
times. Sure you want to have fun anf just hang out, but your grades can
really sneek up on you. Its much more important in high school to pass
each six week and semester then it is in middle school. I've got some
problems with grades myself. Thankfully I'm working on fixing my grades
sooner then later so it wont effect my final grade. It can get really
tough but its all worth it and along the way I promise you'll have fun
and learn so much. Tori Kessinger
Upcoming freshman the first advise that I give you is that try not to
fail any classes because it is very hard to get your credits. Second of
all don´t get lots of tardies and unexcused absents . This well cause
ISS or even worse ,alternative.Study the best that you know how, so that
you can make good enough grades to graduate and go on to do whatever you
want to do with your life.Learn how to control your emotions, your
thoughts, and your life so that you will be mature and ready to go out
on your own. It's an exciting time ahead of you. Michelle Daher
My advice to incoming freshman is your life you’re told "5th grades going to be really hard," and "You
can't slack off like this in middle school," but really... it's just
another school. It's a bit tougher. It's tougher and you've gotten
better. Above all...don't freak out. Everyone is nervous on the first
day, so if you talk to someone, they'll feel better, you'll feel better,
and you've made a new friend. Matthew Karashik
What I would tell a freshman next year is to do his or her best,
especially for a good GPA. I would also tell a freshman to stay out of
trouble as best as possible, because here starts how good your behavior
is and how honest you are. Tell a teacher or counselor if there is
something bothering you. If you have problems with grades, you should go
to tutoring. You can go to tutoring in the morning, afternoon, or even
lunch. Teachers are there for you anytime, anyplace. Steven Glovier
My advice to upcoming freshmen is join a club or a sport. You meet a lot
of new people. Also to keep your grades up. Now is the time to start
thinking about college, so you need a high GPA. Oh the most important
thing buy an elevator pass, they cost 5 bucks. Ha ha just kidding… You
don't need one.
Dominic Juarez
My advice to incoming freshman would definitely be to not take on too
many activities when you first come into high school. I was in color
guard for band, and it took so much time for practices, that I was
falling behind in school. It took until the second semester to bring
ALL of my grades up! Also, I suggest to be extra cautious with the
school rules, especially the dress code. Even if there are a lot of
other girls wearing shorter skirts or shorts, or lower blouses than you,
still be careful. Be on time to your classes! That way, you won't have
to serve detention during lunch when you want to be with your friends,
and you won't get ISS (in school suspension). Finally, be respectful to
your fellow classmates and teachers, listen well, and turn in all your
work when it's due. Make the most of high school! It's the time to find
out who you really are, to make lasting friendships, and to just have
fun! Good luck! :] ~Shayna Kurland~
WOW!! Where to start???? The main thing is high school is not as hard as
it seems. As long as you stay focused during class and don't forget to
do your homework, your classes will be easy. Try to get into some clubs
or major sports, because you get to meet and make new friends. Whatever
you do, don't overdo your schedule by joining every single club there
is; one or two will be perfectly fine. You should become familiar with
the school campus. For example, knowing the easiest way to get to your
classes and knowing where the bathrooms are. After the first week or
two, everything gets a lot easier. All of the teachers are awesome as
long as you stay on their good side!!! Although we don't have a uniform,
there is still a dress code, so don't get busted for the little things.
You will get picked on by upper classmen for being the "fresh meat" or
"freshies" and there isn't much you can do about.. CORONADO ROCKS!!!
