Close to 500 skateboard enthusiast gathered at Carolina Skate Park Thursday night for a skateboarding demonstration by professional skaters Nick Cannon and Anthony Shetler and big-time amateur skaters Matt Mendenhall, Timmy Knuth and Derek Futuhara.
“The World Industries team was down to earth and connected with area youth to the utmost degree,” said Greg Walter, the director of the Carolina Center.
Along with the demonstration, 32 local skaters participated in a friendly competition with prizes donated by Crook’s Skateshop owned by Jesse Perez.
Walter and Nick Cannon (the bearded guy with the baseball cap) were the masters of ceremony the event. Cannon will also MC the Phoenix Am Tournament this weekend.
The World Industries team autographed and handed out posters as well as distributing skateboarding product.
“Events of this type are far and few between and have a positive impact on El Paso Youth,” Walter said.
