El Paso comedian Sam Butler is putting together a benefit comedy show Nov. 2 for someone close to his heart — sister Martha E. Butler.
She's been battling colon cancer for more than three years, her brother said, including flying back and forth to Houston for treatment at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The 48-year-old is hoping gene therapy will help, but the price tag is about $25,000, which insurance won't cover, he said.
"She's a fighter," he said.
"Stand-Up for a Cause" will be at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Leo's Cantina, 315 Mills.
Comedians who'll perform include Gibbs Saad, Aleks with a K, Phfilmer Flungbucket and Butler.
Admission is a $10 donation at the door.
Her brother has set up an online account for donations, just in case people can't go to the show but want to help out. Click here. It should be working tonight.
