Dallas hard rockers Drowning Pool have added a March 16 show at Club 101 to a string of dates leading up to the April release of their self-titled new album.
It's a 7 p.m. show.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $23 day of show, on sale now at Ticketbully, on sale March 4 at the club.
The band's new album will be its fourth studio set and second with its third singer, Ryan McCombs, the first time the band will have released two straight albums with the same lead singer ("Bodies" singer Dave Williams, a founding member, died of heart disease in 2002.
In other concert news:
• One of electronic music's biggest names, German DJ and producer Paul Van Dyk, will do a DJ set March 21 at Club 101. Hard to believe he's pushing 40 (he'll hit the milestone next year).
Tickets for his World Volume Tour stop are $25, on sale now at Ticketbully. Note: the date's not listed on his Web site, paulvandyk.de, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you're not familiar with him, it's a good place to check out what he's like live.
• Showtime! El Paso is offering free tickets to Tuesday's Daniel Rodriguez concert to all law enforcement officers and firefighters; their kids and families can get in for half price ($10 for adults, $5 for kids).
Rodriguez, the so-called "Singing Policeman," whose version of "God Bless America" made him a star after 9/11, will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the Chavez Theatre. Info: 544.2022, showtimeelpaso.com.
• JazzElPaso Connection will mark its third anniversary with "Harlem Nights" at 8 p.m. April 17 at the DoubleTree Hotel's club on the 17th floor.
The Ruben Gutierrez Quintet will perform at the party, which JEPC is describing as a "1930s' Speakeasy and casino fundraiser." It'll include dancing, a silent auction and casino games.
Tickets are $50, on sale at Sheldon Jewelry, 5446 N. Mesa and Olivas Music Center at 1320 N. Zaragosa and 125 Thunderbird. Credit card purchases are only available through the group's web site, jazzelpaso.org.
Info: 317.5503.
• As Tall As Lions launch their largest headlining tour to date April 6, a trek that will bring the band through El Paso's Club 101 on April 14 on its way to the Coachella festival in Indio, CA on April 16.
The group, which recently toured with Cage the Elephant and Mute Math, is touting its new album, "You Can't Take It With You." I don't have ticket prices yet but they're supposed to go on sale March 5, probably through Ticketbully first.
• Border Roots' Mark Alvarado joins Chicano music legends Los Alacranes for a free show at 9 tonight (Feb. 27) at Coconuts BAr and Grill, 816 N. Piedras. "This is a chance to see Los Alacranes in their natural element: A cozy room with good vibes" Alvarado says.
• Critical darlings Deer Tick, whose new album "The Black Dirt Sessions" comes out in June, will play The Percolator on April 13. I don't have ticket details yet.
The band, beloved by the likes of NBC's Brian Williams and Rolling Stone's David Fricke (whom I respect a lot), will be touring with new guitarist Ian O'Neil (formerly of Titus Andronicus, who play Black Market on March 21, on their way through after SXSW), having replaced Andy Tobiassen.
• Another band headed to SXSW will stop here on the way. Tape Deck Mountain, the creation of San Diego native Travis Trevisan, is touring in support of its debut album, "Ghost," and will make a March 16 stop at Take II. No ticket info yet.

Paul Van Dyk in EP is awsome but it should have been booked at Cohen Stadium like Tiesto. 101 is tiny for a DJ that caliber.
