San Antonio's Sisters Morales are doing double duty in the area. You may already know about their July 25 performance at the Spencer Theater in Alto, N.M.
Well, the duo of Lisa and Roberta Morales bring their blend of Southwestern-style country-rock to the grounds of the El Paso Country Club at 7 p.m. Aug. 29.
It's a dinner-concert and a fundraiser for the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
Cocktails and dinner are at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $125 per person, with tables of 10 going for $1,250.
Suggested dress: "haute honky tonk or casual chic," according to a release from the EPSO.
Meanwhile, tickets for that 8 p.m. Aug. 29
Vikki Carr concert at the Plaza Theatre go on sale July 17. Tickets are $45, $55, $75 and $100, and will be available at the box office, Ticketmaster outlets,
ticketmaster.com and 800.745.3000.
The El Paso native is celebrating her 50th year in show business in 2009.
In other concert news:
• The Mars Volta joins the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, M. Ward, OK Go, Of Montreal and dozens of other bands at the Monolith Festival at Red Rocks near Denver. The YYYs, who were so exuberant at Club 101 last month, headline the Sept. 12 bill, with TMV topping the Sept. 13
• Mezklah, the California alt Latin rock band that played Zeppelin's the night of a fatal shooting in the area last month, brings its Big Top Southwest Tour to town for two stops — 9 p.m. July 30 at O2 Lounge, 2700 N. Mesa, and 9 p.m. July 31 at Hot Rods & Wheels, 1510 Bengal.
It's a package tour that includes Albuquerque Afro-Latin percussion group Concepto Tambor, LA experimental rockers Fitter and El Paso belly and fire-dancing group La Flamilia.
Admission's free for the O2 show, which is 21 and over; $5 at Hot Rods and Wheels, which is all-ages.
• El Paso's irreverent electro-punkers the Dozal Brothers return from a 40-day coast-to-coast tour with a performance at 8 p.m. July 18 at the Blue Jungle. 111 E. Robinson.
