Concert update: Lady Antebellum, Girl in a Coma, Idols, Deadmau5, Castro
Been a long time since I blogged and rolled ... out some concert news.
So here goes:
• Pro Antebellum: Maybe you caught Lady Antebellum's act on the CMAs tonight? Maybe you saw they won New Artist of the Year? Maybe you'll go see them at Whiskey Dick's next year before they price themselves out of the market?
That's right, the newly crowned CMA winners, who've scored country hits with "Love Don't Live Here" and "Lookin' for a Good Time," hope to have a good time when they perform March 27 at Whiskey Dick's. Ticket details could be announced by Friday.
• Coma Dose: San Antonio girl group Girl in a Coma, who did some recording at Tony Rancich's Sonic Ranch this year, headline a show Dec. 2 at Uncle Paulie's Pub.
Bassist Jenn Alva, singer Nina Diaz, her sister and drummer Phanie Diaz have released one album, "Both Before I'm Gone," on Joan Jett's Blackheart Records label, and after touring with the likes of Frank Black, the Pogues and the Eyeliners, the trio soon will hit the road with Tegan and Sara.
EP's Ralpheene and Fatter Than Nancy open. It's an 18-and-over show, 9 p.m. door. $4 cover at the door.
• Idols In/Out: Don't know if you heard, but the name, and two of the cast members of Jam Theatrical's holiday tour featuring former "American Idol" contestants have changed. The new name is "American Stars: Former American Idol Finalists in Concert for the Holidays!" Well, that's what the press release says. Doesn't roll off the tongue the same way "Idols Holiday Concert" would.
Season 3 runner-up Diana DeGarmo and last season's 12th place finisher, David Hernandez, are still in the cast. Constantine Maroulis and Kimberly Caldwell are out, replaced by Season 7 10th place finisher Chikezie (Hernandez's "Idols" roommate) and Kimberley Locke, who finished third in the second season.
The 20-date tour includes a 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 show at the Plaza Theatre. Tix are $27, $37 and $47 and went on sale Nov. 7 at the box and Ticketmasters, ticketmaster.com and 544.8444.
• Deadmau5 Live: Offbeat Canadian techno trafficker Deadmau5 performs — live on his laptop — Dec. 4 at Myst Ultra Lounge. He's working a new album, "Random Album Title," and plans plenty of visual effects, including his trademark Mau5head. Ken Jordan of The Crystal Method, who perform Friday at Studio 69, namechecked Deadmau5 in our cover story in this Friday's Tiempo section.
• Castro's Conflict: Just in case you didn't get the word, mariachi singer Cristian Castro had to postpone his Nov. 8 show at the Plaza, presumably because he had to prepare for the "Yanni Voices" concerts Nov. 13-14 (the shows run through Nov. 16) Acapulco ("Voices" also is the name of Yanni's latest PBS special, airing in this and next month, and tour that will bring him to the Plaza next July).
Castro's El Paso show has been rescheduled for Feb. 6. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored on the new night. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
