Conference USA will move to traveling partners this season and go back to the Thursday-Saturday format. This makes it a little easier for fans to plan. They can know that if UTEP is home on Thursday, the Miners will also be home on Saturday. If the Miners are on the road on Thursday, they will be on the road Saturday.
But the strange part of this schedule is that the Miners will play 16 conference games but they will only play one team (traveling partner UTSA) twice. Everything else is a single game ... 14 games against 14 different opponents and two against UTSA.
Tulsa coach Danny Manning said, "The schedule has us playing somebody just one game. One game is basically like one long post-season tournament. Emphasis we put on scouting will be really important."
UTSA coach Brooks Thompson said, "This is totally different. It is like one long non-conference schedule. But it is what it is. We've all got to play it."
Usually, when teams play each other home-and-away, they know each other's every move.
This way, it will be interesting ... to say the least. And different. Very, very different.
