It'll be an interesting day of games on Friday in area round action for Class 3A, 4A and 5A teams from the the El Paso area.
My prediction this weekend is that the Andress boys will get through to the regional quarterfinals as well as the Eastlake Falcons. Both teams are in Class 4A.
Andress has had a tremendous season with 28 wins and a No. 1 ranking in Class 4A according to the TABC. The Eagles are talented on defense and are 10 to 12 deep on their roster. And they are well coached led by head coach Jim Forbes and assistants Rodney Lewis, Eric Weaver and Eugene Costello. If the Eagles just maintain their composure like they have all season and continue to play hard for 32 mintues, they should be fine and knock off Lubbock High. Plus you have like the fact that the Eagles have so many guys that can play at a high level and give the team some huge minutes such as guards Jeff Long, Brian Hunter, Zaccheus Jackson, Alvin Warren and Eddie Sinegal.
Eastlake has a chance against Amarillo Palo Duro on Friday. The Falcons play hard on defense and if they can find just a little bit more consistency on offense, they have a chance to win and perhaps play Andress here in El Paso next week in a regional quarterfinal matchup. The Falcons won their first playoff game ever on Tuesday night and a tough schedule could help team get ready for what will be a tough area round game.
