Friday's Montwood vs. Coronado District 1-5A football showdown could be a classic. Both teams are evenly matched in a lot of ways. Both teams have defenses that make key plays when they have to, both have standout offensive players at the skill spots and both teams are well coached. And of course both teams are 4-1 in District 1-5A and the winner will take a huge step towards winning the district title.
Montwood has been a come from behind team all season long but it has to be careful vs. Coronado. The Thunderbirds have a very good running game behind Bobby Chacon and are capable of putting a team away behind that strong running attack.
Coronado has been a pleasant surprise this year. The team is better in every phase of the game and it has improved tremendously since a Week 0 loss to Midland Lee.
Montwood has found ways to win this year despite trailing in all of its close game. The Rams have tremendous receivers in Warren Redix and Ruben Portillo and a good QB in Jacob Aguilar.
District 1-5A has been fun to watch and follow all year. Expect more of the same in this one.
