While the Faith Christian Academy boys basketball team has leaned heavily on 7-foot center and Tulane signee Ray Barreno, the Lions have also gotten a huge contribution from guard Rene Esparza en route to their 18-0 record this year.
The defending TCAL state champions have benefitted from Esparza strong defensive play and his well-rounded offensive game. One could make the point that Esparza is what makes the Lions go as a team. He plays fast and with great intensity, which is what makes him a Division I recruit.
Esparza was a big reason the Lions overcame a slow start to beat Cathedral 55-25 on Thursday night to keep the Lions unbeaten. Esparza hit some big shots and helped get the defense going with some strong play.

Congratulations!! Faith Christian Academy and his family and friends must be so proud. Keep it up Rene.
