The Del Valle Conquistadores will go for a perfect 8-0 record in District 2-4A football when they take on visiting Canutillo on Friday night.
Del Valle has come a long way this season after losing its first two games of the year vs. Everman and El Dorado. The Conquistadores have won seven straight behind a very good defense and an improving offense.
The Conquistadores had a few challenges in district play this year, but knocked off Hanks and Horizon with timely offense and strong defensive efforts. The expectation entering the season was that Del Valle was the favorite to win the district, but the way the team has done it has been impressive.
Last year, the Conquistadores were upset in the bi-district round of the playoffs, but this year it seems unlikely that will happen again especially the way the defense is playing right now. But first up is Canutillo on Friday night and while the Eagles are playoff-bound, I don't know if they have enough to upend Del Valle on the road.
