The Montwood baseball team is garnering national attention.
Maxpreps.com recently ranked the Rams No. 21 in the country in its top 25 poll. Kevin Askeland, the man in charge of the poll, wrote, “It's hard to deny Montwood any longer. The top team in El Paso, a city that produced a 5A state champion in Socorro two years ago, Montwood has lost only once. A big test looms this week with a rematch against Franklin, a team Montwood defeated 1-0 earlier in the season.”
Montwood (22-1) and Franklin play Saturday at Montwood.
The Rams are also ranked in the USA Today Texas poll at No. 4. In the more accepted, Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, Montwood sits at No. 3.
To anyone who has watched the Rams these accolades should not be surprising. Saul Avila, Eder Erives and A.C. Cadena all boast ERAs under 2.04.
The lineup is also stacked with seven guys hitting .393 or better. And it’s a great mix of speed (Christian Benitez, Ruben Solis) and power (Alfred Iturralde, Avila, Wes Jordan, Erives and Jacob Aguilar).

every body knows franklin is the best team in el paso by far
