The UTEP football team made another push to keep local talent in El Paso.
Franklin’s Derek Elmendorff said this week he received a scholarship offer from the Miners.
It’s the second week in a row UTEP has made a firm offer to an area high school athlete. The Miners also offered Burges star Aaron Jones.
Elmendorff is a big 6-4, 300-pound offensive lineman and most likely projects as a coveted tackle. The junior also has very developed footwork at this point and shows good strength. He’s been invited to Texas Tech junior day, along with Jones, and has received multiple letters from Utah, Houston, Oklahoma State and Missouri.
Elmendorff was a preseason All-City First Team selection, but injured his ankle during the season, missing significant time.
