Coronado High's Cole Freytag will play college football at UTEP beginning next January as a grayshirt. He will enroll part-time at UTEP in the fall, then begin play with the Miners in the second semester of the 2011-12 campaign. He will play wide receiver for UTEP and will be on full scholarship beginning in January of next year.
Freytag said New Mexico State and Angelo State were among the other suitors for his services. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder played quarterback and receiver for the Thunderbirds during his senior season.
Freytag said he really liked his official visit to UTEP over the weekend and is looking forward to playing for the Miners.
His high school teammate, tight end Adam Roberts, is planning on signing with San Diego State next week.
