Just a quick hit on the upset of the night Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2008). That would be unranked Del Valle taking it to No. 8 San Elizario 25-21, 13-25, 25-17, 25-13.
At the beginning of the year, this would have been hyped as a marquee game between defending district co-champions. As it was, there was little luster, since the Conquistadores came into the match fifth in District 2-4A, five matches behind the second-place Eagles.
I wasn't there, but Del Valle head coach Jesse Lugo considered the hero of this match to be his libero, Anna Hernandez. "She's had great games, and tonight, because of her defense, we won," he said.
Hernandez finished with a team-best 25 digs and four aces.
Other players of note include Elaine Maestas (13 kills, 20 digs, 9 blocks, 2 assists), Veronica Castillo (8 kills, 5 blocks, 2 assists) and Anais Martinez (17 digs, 3 kills).
Del Valle's upset drops San Elizario to 9-3 in district, while the Conquistadores improved to 5-7.
Neither moved spots within the district standings, but the turn of events underlines the resilience that Del Valle's program has been known for, as well as further highlighted their quality coaching.

quality coaching???
umm they are what 5-9

High school wrestling season is just starting and I'd like to know if there will be coverage equaling soccer, tennis and golf this year. Tournaments are really exciting and intense. I and many other fans believe High School wrestling does not get the coverage it deserves.
