Just some extra quotes from Montwood track star Chris Muncie
Here are just a few extra quotes from my conversation with Montwood junior Chris Muncie on a story that will run in today's El Paso Times.
For those unfamiliar, Muncie will compete this weekend at the Region 1-5A championships in Lubbock, with great shots to advance in the 200- and 400-meter dashes.
Muncie:
—On getting into track and field:
"In seventh grade, my track coach from Ensor Middle School, Mr. Sanchez, recommended I run track because I was very fast in football and basketball. I gave it a shot, and it changed my mind about sports. I liked it. It's my favorite sport."
—On having to run junior varsity his sophomore season after transferring from Americas:
"I was really disappointed. I just wanted to be out there with the big boys. We had a boy on our team, Andrew Sano, and I felt I could compete with him. He was one of the best 400 and 800 runners in the city. I really wanted to run varsity. I wish they had some type of regionals for JV because I felt I could have done well. I ran 48.3 (seconds) as a sophomore, and that would have put me third in the region and seventh at state as a sophomore."
—On setting the Ratliff Stadium (Odessa) record in the 400 (47.35 fully automatic):
"I felt that was the right place to run my times, at Ratliff Stadium. There was a pretty decent crowd, and I wanted to get some type of reputation and it worked out well. It was an awesome experience. I'm hoping to go 46 at this (regional) meet. I know I can."
—On the season so far:
"It's been a huge season of success. I can't explain it more. I wasn't expecting it to be this good, and it just got better and better and it's still getting better."
—On accusations of him using performance-enhancing drugs (I only post this in reference to at least one post on this blog alleging Muncie is using steroids).
"I didn't know how my name got involved with that. I don't do anything, just 100 percent strength and everything. I hate to be accused of using those substances. It's not true at all. It's just hard work every day in practice."

They need to do a drug test on this young kid. Why are we honoring someone that is being accused of using steroids. Take the test and show us that you are clean. I have heard that coaches know about his use, ADs know, principals know, all the teams and athelets know, then why isn't something done about it? It isn't fair to the other athelets who are out there working hard. And what about the individual that came in 4th place missing out on going to the regenal meet because of one person using drugs. He is the only runner this year that I've heard using drugs. Every meet and every coach has something to say about this kid, no others. It's past time to do something to put this issue to rest.

honestly they need to test muncie. All athletes that run in District 1-5A know he is on roids. Why dont they test him and let the truth be told. There are only three top runners that should have made it to regionals in the 400 and muncie isnt one. Why don't we give athletes who deserve to go to regionals that work hard and don use steroids the chance to go. This kid goes to montwood, which is notorious among other athletes for using steriods, isn't this a dead give a way?????

The guy is 6 foot 5 and 175 pounds. I think someone that juiced would be a lil more cut and have a lil more weight if he was truly using steroids.

I know for a fact that this kid is not using any performance enhancing drugs and until you know any different you should just stop being jealous and talk about something that you may know something about.

O.K. I am tired of everyone defending this kid!!! The kidhe was doing the performance inhancing drugs with is Josh Loya, Fred Loya's grandson!! Why don't you call fred up and ask him Where Josh is at right now, Then ask him why. And see if he will tell you the story of josh and ask him specifically about Muncie!!!!

Jealousy, Jealousy, Jealosy. Muncie would never do such a thing. Why don't one of you unanimous people say who you're?? I can assure you Muncie will take a drug test on any given day and come clean. The whole Josh Loya thing is bogus if you ask me, just someone trying to put someone down for their hardworking accomplishments.

For all you individuals that are making false statements, your the ones who are not doing anything with your lives and want to bring down someone who is being successful in their endevors. I say let him take a drug test and the truth will be told and then all the liars will be exposed. I guess you will say a 13 year old who runs 2:15 to 2:20 in an 800 is on steroids too or a 14 year old who runs a 2:09 in the 800 is on steroids too. Or an 18 year old should not be running 53 in the 400. You lazy back biters should do what they are doing instead of running off at the mouth and trying to bring someone else down or writting emails or posting stuff on My space or face book. If your sure about what your talking about let your name be known.

Well then someone pay for a drug test for him that way his parents should not object, but guess what he won't do it!!!!

Sean I agree with you if he was using steriods he would be much bigger than what he is and for the 6'5" 175 I know him personally and he is only 6"3' 175 I myself am 6"2'and he is only 1 inch taller than me. With steriod use and as much weight lifting as he is doing he would be much bigger.

I used to work out a lot in college. I got asked/accused of taking steroids by my friends, family, and strangers in general. I was actually proud to be accused/asked because I knew in my heart that I was 100% clean. No supplement, no steroids, nothing but hard work.
Perhaps you "know it alls" should quit accusing/bashing this HIGH SCHOOL KID and get a freaking life of your own. Or maybe you should take Muncie's cue and get your sloth-like, overweight butts off the computer chair and go workout yourselves. Then after a few years of hard work, you can have someone accuse you of cheating your way into great shape.

Like I said just take the test and that will shut everyone up!?!?

A lot to blaim for all this controversy is Eastwood Track coach Mr. Mcclain. Guy tells everyone Muncie's on steroids, and he's not a good kid to be around with. I personally would like to get the inside scoop from Mr. McClain and get his take on this. I talked with Chris the other day and the kid says he's 100% natural, and doesn't mind being tested. So why doesn't Mr. McClain, or any of these annonymous people pursue and get him tested? Lets do this people and put this topic to rest!!
