Former UTEP cheerleader and present U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Jalyessa Walker executes one of her 49 straight backflips as she attempted to set a new world record Nov. 24 during halftime of the UTEP-Rice football game. Walker, who graduated from the university in the Spring, broke the record of 35 set by Dallas high school cheerleader Miranda Ferguson. Walker said she was trying for 50, but was unable to meet the goal because she ran out of room. The record still has to be accepted as official by Guinness.
