Times' Capsule snapshots

One of my favorite things about working here is the people I work with.  Check em' out.

 

El Paso Times Editor Bob Moore working on what looks like the computer in that 1983 movie WarGames featuring Mathew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. 

 

Our very own photog Victor Calzada.  I'm pretty sure he still wears that shirt, or something similar at least.

And Rudy Guitterez! I think he might be wearing a Swatch watch.  Rudy has informed me that he is shooting a manual focus 600 in this photo.  MANUAL.

Managing Editor of the El Paso Times Ramon Bracamontes.  This might be what old school journalism looked like.  A phone, a pen, a notepad and an open phonebook.  Guess things haven't changed much, except for the phonebook part. Maybe add an ipad and a smartphone.  Whatever, the idea is still the same.

 

You bet the idea is still the same.  You can always find someone doing this in any newsroom at any given time.

Our favorite sports writer Bill Knight. I think we might still have that laptop somewhere.  That is a laptop right?

Investigative reporter Daina Washington Valdez.  One of the best.

Vanessa, that is not a laptop in Bill Knight's nimble hands. That is a genuine Trash 80, the Radio Shack device that set sports reporters free.

There was many a time that this lowly young part-timer in the Sports Department back in the day enjoyed reading Bill Knight's Miner game reports. My co-worker and co-conspirator Richard Luna and I would read voraciously and tell Bill to keep saving so we could read the next graph ... good times!
