(Top photo) Ashley Burns showed daughter Lana Rubin a check for $2,351.75 during a presentation at Horizon Heights Elementary School Thursday afternoon. Horizon City firefighters, represented by Administrator Ron Larson, center, Sergio Chavira, second from right, and Matthew Pinkham, collected the money by conducting a weekend campaign to assist Lana and her family. Lana was diagnosed last year with juvenile hyaline fibromatosis, a very rare genetic disease with no treatment or cure. The disease causes tumors in Lana's joints which leave bruises and cause her pain. One tumor on her nose disfigured her beautiful face. Lana had surgery to remove the tumor around Christmas last year thanks to her family, classmates, Horizon Heights Elementary School and the community. Horizon City firefighters wanted to help further and organized a street-corner collection much like the firefighters' twice annual Muscular Dystrophy campaign. (Bottom photo) Burns gave a daughter a kiss as Lana's classmates received a tour of the fire truck.
