When in doubt, tie your shoe

There are times when you show up to an assigment and it takes a while before you see a photo. Not today.  I realized my shoe was untied, knelt down to tie it and on my way back up I saw my photo. A few clicks of the shuttter later and I was back in my air conditioned car wishing that I had five dollars in cash with me so I could take home a box of mangos. 

Boom Boom Look!!!

"Boom boom look" was what I heard through the baby monitor when I walked in the door after work tonight.  I walked into her room and realized she had a great view of the lightning storm. We sat and watched together for a bit before I went to grab my camera.  It was the end of the day but I was able to get a few shots off  before my battery died. She would clap and jump after each bolt.  It was by far the best shoot of the day!

Flight director honored

NASA flight director Ginger Kerrick of El Paso was honored Saturday July 23 at the Pat O'Rourke Recreation Center for the National Parks and Recreation Month's celebration, "A Star Among Us." More than 50 people attended the event where Kerrick talked about her journey to success and Mayor John Cook presented Kerrick the Key to the City. She will also have a street in East El Paso named after her -- an honor like the one given to astronaut John "Danny" Olivas, who is also an El Paso native. (Top photos) Kerrick instructed those attendance about the shuttle missions. (Middle photos) Kerrick was honored with the key to the city and a street sign which thanked her on one side and had her name on the other. National Day of the American Cowboy

Cowboys and charros celebrated the National Day of the American Cowboy Saturday July 23 in Cleveland Square near the El Paso Museum of History. The day honors the history and culture of the cowboy in the United States. Cowboys from the Six Guns and Shady Ladies re-enactors were joined by the Asociacion de Charros Emiliano Zapata to showcase the cowboy life and skills. (Top photo) Cliff Seaman, "The El Paso Troubador," performed with the Six Guns group. (Bottom photo) Miguel Castro of the Asociacion de Charros performed rope tricks on foot and on horseback.

Space shuttle memories

Double duty

Abigail Holguin did double duty as she helped her father, City Representative Eddie Holguin, cut a ribbon to open the Pecan Grove #2 Park Monday morning. She then hopped on the slide for some fun. The park received a myriad of improvements through a Communiy Development Block Grant. Among the improvements are playground equipment with safety surface rubber mats, 18-inch rock wall around the playground ara, seven-foot wide concrete walk, 40-foot by 40-foot metal shade canopy, benches, trash receptacles, traffic control signs and modified irrigation system.
