McMillan, Cook, Maestas fuel upset
How bad was the annual legislative basketball game Friday night?
Sen. John Sapien was ejected for throwing an elbow. This after he talked smack on the House floor early in the day.
Rep. Bill McCamley shot a half-dozen airballs, clanked his free throws, but still took home the MVB award -- Most Volatile Bricklayer.
Surprising Rep. Zach Cook helped turn the game with a three-point play in which he blindly rifled in a bucket and drew the foul.
Rep. Moe Maestas held his own against Sens. Bill O'Neill and Howie Morales, easily the best players on the floor but part of the second-best team.
The surgeon, Rep. Terry McMillan, right, carved up the Senate's Swiss Cheese Defense and was clutch at the free throw line.
Heavily favored by a predictor who shall remain unidentified to hide his embarrassment, the Senate led 31-25 at the end of three quarters. The House club scored 12 consecutive points in the final period.
The final was 40-33. Ouch.
More than $7,000 was raised for the UNM Cancer Center.
