EL PASO, Texas – Sophomore running back Aaron Jones was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honorable mention list announced on Monday.
Jones ran for a career-high 237 yards on 22 carries (10.8 average) and career-best three touchdowns as the Miners claimed a victory at New Mexico on Saturday.
The tailback not only ranks first in rushing in Conference USA but also secured the No. 3 spot in the nation. Jones is the only sophomore to rush for 200+ yards in program history.
The El Paso native helped the Miners seal the night as they recorded 330 rushing yards garnering the No. 2 spot in the league in rushing offense and 13th nationally.
Jones had a career night recording his longest touchdown run, a 73-yard sprint during the second quarter and tallied his fourth career 100-yard game in the first half of Saturday’s contest.
The second-year standout holds top-five rankings in five categories in the conference individual statistics (rushing-first, all purpose-first/fifth nationally, scoring-first, scoring (TD)-first and totaloffense-fifth).
