UTEP athletic director Bob Stull said he could learn of UTEP's bowl destination as early as today but at the moment said the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl was the most likely spot.
"Right now, as it stands, if I had to guess, I'd say New Orleans," Stull said based on a conversation with Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky. "It's not 100 percent sure but that's what I'd guess. There are some things being worked through. I think I'll know by" Tuesday.
Bowl bids are formally announced Dec. 5 but the New Orleans Bowl is on Dec. 18, the first day of bowl season, so the pairing is likely to be set much earlier.
The game, which will be on ESPN at 7 p.m., pits a Conference USA team against a Sun Belt team, almost certainly champion Florida International. The Panthers are 6-5 heading into their finale this Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
Florida International opened the season with four consecutive losses, including a five-point loss to Rutgers, a seven-point loss at Texas A&M and a 14-point loss at Maryland, but has won six of its last seven.
