Below is a press release sent out by Newspaper Tree earlier this week:
On Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., at the El Paso Community College ASC Board Room, Newspaper Tree will present on its history, 501(c)(3) non-profit application process, and vision for the future.
Newspaper Tree (www.newspapertree.com) was founded as an independent digital media project in El Paso, Texas in 2003. From 2004 through 2009 it operated as a for-profit news organization covering the El Paso-Juárez borderlands. In late 2009, the El Paso Community Foundation purchased Newspaper Tree with the goal of re-launching the digital news project as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Newspaper Tree filed its application for 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service in April 2011. The application is currently pending.
"With this community presentation, we will share information on our history, the 501(c)(3) application process, and the future of digital media for El Paso," said interim publisher Anthony Martinez. "This is a challenging but exciting time as we move forward."
