In a brief message KFOX news director Elizabeth O'Hara announced the station's new primetime anchor:
" KFOX14 is proud to announce the hiring of Erika Castillo as the new primetime anchor.
Erika has a long and proud history in the El Paso market. An Ysleta High School and UTEP graduate, Erika got her start at KTSM in 1989. Erika helped take KTSM to the #1 position before leaving in 1998 for the weekend anchor gig in Dallas at KDFW. From there, Erika left for KRQE in Albuquerque, taking the #3 station to #1 over the course of her time there.
Erika and her husband have five children and will be moving to the area in the next few weeks.
Erika's start date at KFOX is December 5th.
Please join me in welcoming back Erika Castillo back home!"

Welcome Home Erika!!

I hope she doesn't get arrested this time..wasnt it outside a nightclub? Keying cars?

That's her mother's last name. Her mother taught at Ysleta High School (hence the reason why Erika attended said school), but her last name was German. And please Erika-yes we know how much "money" you were making at KTSM-just don't show up to work (again) in a $40,000.00
dollar car (and leave your lipstick inside of it to melt during a hot summer's day) while the rest of your peers drive "used" cars as Nick Miller used to when he owned a NIssan Sentra. In other words...STAY HUMBLE.

Is she the talking head that spoke perfect English until she got to her last name? Good evening, I am Erica KAAAAASTEEEEEEOOOOOO. I think SNL made fun of her in a skit once, where the anchors spoke perfect english and then hit a spanish word and went all ethnic.
"Back to you Sally."
Thanks Bill, next up, a story about SIIIINKO De MIIIIIIY-OOOO."
Then the weather.

Welcome back, Erica. I went to high school with her, and she is a sweet gal. I wish her success in her new position! God bless, you, Erica!

big woop. bring back the Simpsons and Seinfeld. that's all i care about. thumbs up if you agree!

The correct hire would have been back at KTSM! Current anchors there are bad. It was a mistake to get rid of Nick Miller. KTSM is so bad that I actually tolerate Chris on Channel 7!

Welcome Back Erica

"Disco Stew tells it true." The programming at the end of the 10:00 PM newscast SUCKS!!! I'm certain that once the management of KFOX realizes how much (revenue)money
they're losing, they'll bring back The Simpsons and Seinfeld...and no ratings are not gonna go up because of Erica. Just look at the revolving door of anchors of "The" KFOX Morning News.

Welcome Back Ericka. The community is lucky to have one of it's own delivering the news in an unbiased professional manner. I wish you and your family all the best. Ignore the hatters, they are everywhere.

Who the hell is she replacing? Does this mean that Martina Valley is out on her can? Or is Purvis finally getting the boot? And "Big Bang Theory" is way better than the Simpsons, which is funny but has grown tired and stale, much like Sandra on the weather.

She will probably leave after a year or two.
Posted by: Eric Rida | November 06, 2011 at 11:33 AM
Once she realizes what a JOKE KFOX (not the real call letters for that station F.Y.I.)is, she'll wise-up and will leave to have more babies...I mean, she's been gone from El Chuco only what, 20 years (?) and she has FIVE KIDS. Guess they didn't have cable t.v. where they once lived!!!
Posted by: Sean Paisano | November 06, 2011 at 02:31 PM
so what exactly are the call letters mr. "i know everything"?? if not kfox, why would the FCC let them use them?? i googled kfox, and it came up as a station right here in el paso, not los angeles, or anywhere else!

Boy Paisano - the FCC sure its going to be surprised when you tell them that they're wrong . . .

K F O X are the call letters used by channel 14 here in town, but the real call letters are K T U V. FOX broadcasting has an agreement with the FCC to use "FOX" with all of it's stations and networks in order for it ("FOX") to be more easily recognized and to establish a higher, though untrue, number of viewers. What this basically means is that you can charge a higher advertising rate for viewership than the "true" number of people (a.k.a. demographic) who are actually viewing a t.v. program at one time.

Wow. The stupidity of Sean Paisano astounds me. But it's futile to try to argue with someone so incredibly uninformed. Rest assured, KFOX are indeed the real call letters. KTVU are the call letters of KFOX's sister station in Oakland, also owned by Cox. Sean Paisano literally just made my heart hurt with his ridiculous comment.

Sorry Sean - but if you would bother to click on the link you would learn that KFOX are the call letters assigned to channel 14 here in El Paso. They changed from KCIK in 1994. "KTVU Partnership" in the license holder.
Nothing like beating a drum louder after you've been told you're off rhythm.

I thought Martina and Lauren were doing great. Well whatever. Erica: Welcome back and Mazel tov!
Posted by: SunCityCynic | November 08, 2011 at 10:16 PM
Liz O'Hara...beware. Erica is much better looking than any of the other anchors at the station. And lets tell it like it really is...Martina is a good reporter/anchor, but not very appealing to the eye. Lauren is a good reporter as well, but she will only be around for a very short time before she moves onto bigger and better things (journalistic wise). ERICA...STAY HUMBLE!!!

Welcome back, Erika. You and Nick Miller took KTSM to the top when you two were the #1 dual anchors in El Paso. They never replaced you, try as they did. You are a welcome addition to KFOX. Don't listen to the bitter ankle-biters here, they are just jealous of your accomplishments. I hope you turn the revolving-door KFOX female anchor into something, like Estela Casas has done, of a permanent fixture.

One more thing, most of these haters can't even spell your name correctly. Again, welcome Erika.
